Historical fiction: Mystery novel inspired by 1880s Westchester killing, execution

The Last Hanging is a historical murder mystery by Mamaroneck Historical Society member and researcher Michael G. Meaney. It is inspired by an 1883 Westchester County murder and subsequent execution by hanging of the suspected killer.

He maintained to the last that he didn't do it. What if he really hadn't? The Last Hanging takes that premise.

In the novel, a minister and Civil War veteran plays a big role in the arrest and hanging of the wrong man in a fictional Long Island Sound village. Devastated at his tragic error, he and a witty, 1880s fashionista dress shop owner team up to unearth the real killer. The novel includes references to Mamaroneck.

The Last Hanging, published in 2021, is available to buy on Amazon.com in paperback ($14.99) or Kindle edition ($2.99). It is also available to borrow from the Mamaroneck Public Library.
