June 17: Prohibition and Speakeasies

  • Woman's Club of Mamaroneck 504 Cortlandt Avenue Mamaroneck, NY, 10543 United States (map)

Ned Benton will give a talk on Prohibition and Speakeasies in Larchmont and Mamaroneck at the June Mamaroneck Historical Society Members Get-together.

Speakeasies were secret drinking spots that operated when alcoholic beverages were declared illegal during Prohibition from 1920 to 1933. There apparently were plenty of them locally. “53 Speakeasies in Mamaroneck” headlined a Daily Times of Mamaroneck article on July 14, 1928.

The Members Get-together is 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the Woman's Club of Mamaroneck, 504 Cortlandt Avenue.
